For ten years now, youth in North Africa and the Middle East have taken to the streets for their freedom. But not with weapons and violence, but with texts, beats and microphones. Who were these rebels and who are they today? What remains of their creative rebellion?
The so-called “Arabellion” was shaped by young people who rebelled against authoritarian regimes and despots who restricted their freedom of expression and suppressed their artistic work. The creative power was discharged in flash mobs, graffiti and rap music. This time was full of hope, and yet the riots called on other, new oppressors.
